MS Free Since 1967 – Featured Healing Story

Updated: Nov 9, 2023

After being diagnosed in 1966 with Multiple Sclerosis, Mary decided to look for non-traditional forms of treatment. After increasing positive emotions, listening to her intuition, and seeking creativity daily, her neurologists could find no trace of scarring or MS.

This is her story in her own words:

Over fifty years ago, I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. The diagnosis was an answer to five years of unexplained, episodic systems of weakness, numbness and paralysis, muscular and nerve spasms, headaches, blurred vision and blurred speech. I rejected treatment and support after listening to my intuition that prompted me to find my way back to health by doing a new and different creative activity each day.

When I was at my lowest point, with paralysis in my leg and arm, I could only rest. I think during that time of quiet I resolved many personal issues and in hindsight was meditating on some level. My intuition told me strongly not to place credence on the diagnosis and followed up with ‘do something creative’ each day, which I did faithfully. The following year I was completely free of all symptoms.”

[One year later] her neurologists could find no trace of scarring or any symptoms of MS. Following my recovery, I have had very few health issues in my life. Now, at 79, I’m reasonably fit and definitely well.

[Regarding what may have caused the M.S, it may have been] unresolved grief for the loss of my husband, childhood trauma from World War II, and/or sheer exhaustion from looking after two infant children.”

EDITOR’S NOTE: As of April 2020 Mary is thriving post-diagnosis.

Her update:

I was recently diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy in my feet, which my medical advisers tell me can be from the MS so many years ago or simply old age (now 82). I did not do an MRI as it is what is, my belief in not buying into the diagnostic label is just as relevant today and I manage to live life fully albeit with an aid of a stick. I am pretty fit in every other way. I am a great believer in a practice of gratitude, which was a major step in my journey back to health. Really I still practice all of the steps in one way or other as life unfolds that I identified in my book A Journey of Creative Healing published 2018 – these being – Accepting Responsibility, Spiritual Wake Up Call and Finding the Silver Lining, Not Buying into the Diagnostic Table, Grief, Stillness and Surrender, Trusting Acting Upon my Intuition and finally Focusing on Creativity. I am still working, writing my fourth book – my second novel due to be published 2021, and also as a cruise ship lecturer, presenting history, culture of destinations and food and providing workshops on travel writing (have been for the last eight years) and recently received a wonderful recognition from Regent of the Seven Seas cruise line.

EDITOR’S NOTE: As of October 2020 Mary is still well and thriving post-diagnosis.

I am much more aware of diet, tend to eat less gluten and dairy but the healing methods I used half a century ago still are very much part of my lifestyle – practice of gratitude, creativity, quiet and stillness. Being in nature is ever more important to to me as I age – I think it is beneficial to have 30 minutes a day in the sun then sit in the shade and simply be at one with the beauty of nature.

I’ve found my purpose is writing and book deadlines. I see even more during this time of uncertainty the importance of where you put your focus. Putting my focus on writing, family, and embracing nature. 50 years ago there was little known about MS and there was no internet to do research, which meant I was thrown on my own resources. My intuition. in my case it guided me each step of the way and the icing on the cake of intuitive messages was focusing on creativity. Simple but still stands to day. Focusing on what I loved was key in my recovery and still is key to my well-being today. You can read the full story in my book A Journey of Creative Healing available on Amazon.
