Bio

My name is Mimi Alvarez. I have been a nurse for 35 years and an advance practice mental health nurse specializing in supporting patients and caregivers experiencing cancer or other life-limiting illnesses. I am an artist, gardener, mother, grandmother, and lifelong spiritual seeker. I have practiced as a clinician, psychotherapist, consultant to large teaching hospitals, an educator, teacher, mentor, coach, and lifelong learner. In 2013, I was diagnosed with breast cancer which rocked my world. My cancer diagnosis was a gift wrapped in fear and grief. My cancer journey was also an invitation to awaken and to living a more authentic life, a process of letting go of things, relationships and experiences that no longer served me, and learning to live life with humility and grace knowing that we all share a common humanity.

I have had the great good fortune of exploring and training in many healing modalities including HeartMath, guided imagery, healing touch, mindfulness, trauma-informed care, aromatherapy, existential psychotherapy just to name a few. There is no one path that works for everyone. The right path for you is the one that resonates deep inside you, that rings true for you, that speaks to your heart and soul.

I live on Bainbridge Island in Washington State. My passion is to walk this journey with like-minded people who are searching for meaning and purpose, a sense of belonging and community and to provide a sacred space for authentic presence, listening and sharing. I am also passionate about being of service to healthcare workers going through this experience. Self-compassion and self-care are essential daily practices that are life giving.
